OH BOY OH BOY DO I HAVE A FEW AUS FOR YOU!! (and most of them have desti live!)

starting with a big one: SUPER MARIO GLITCHY PAPER JAM

Desti in this one was formerly an octarian soldier and also rival to Agent 4 aka Meggy in this au, and as such had an impact on the bright eyed and bushy tailed newbie (Meggy had to reiterate... so many strategies because of her, one of the most annoying yet joyful eras of her life) she was also DJ Octavio's grand daughter so... you can imagine the conflict that would sprout from that after her untimely death in anime island

then we have smth i like to refer to the Triple Dose AU where Meggy get's the big three of shenanigans in splatoon (Sanitization, Hypnogoggles and Fuzzification, there was also a bit of grayscaling but that was temporary), Desti ends up filling in for Meggy during the Sanitization era since it was assumed Meggy died in the explosion (when really she got kidnapped by a crazy telephone) so she ends up getting flashbanged by the stuff that should have had happened to Meggy (who was being the lab rat equivalent to the world's worse blunt rotation)

Then there's that one off au (which i forgot to post) called Double Fuzz, where Desti and Meggy get fuzzified by Grizz (who used Desti's corpse as Fuzzy Ooze patient zero but thats another can of worms, and straight up kidnapped Meggy) they're stuck at the hip with Desti being a bear-cat-monkey-octoling amalgamation thing and meggy being a tiger-inkling-human mutant, and they have to figure out to escape from grizz and who they once were cause of amnesia shenanigans

Then there's SuperBowserGlitchy which has Desti being the rival to the Koopa King's own adoptive Daughter Meggy Spletzer (and also dating her but no one needs to know that) since Bowser unintentionally ended up blocking the sword of the Sephiroth that would have killed Desti with his shell

Finally we have my tari and desti swap au Animeta where Tari is the one that get's stabbed instead of Desti, (she's not dead technically- just stuck in cyberspace) Desti is currently working at SMG3's cafe and is a surprisingly good at making pastries (which helps in sells a lot) and is dating Meggy (and is also housemates with her), she ends up filling in the role for Tari would have through the years before 2024 pre-western spaghetti (where Tari is finally able to do smth bcs of the simulation being her playing field and stuff)

anyways thats all the aus i can think of rn bcs its like midnight and i need sleep!

hiii. so i start college tomorrow! but i also have a 6hr gap between my classes on tuesdays and thursdays. im hoping during that time i can get back into drawing for SLG, and hopefully DPL. DPL is in dire need of my attention but I really want to get SLG's arc moving forward again considering I wanted to finish it 2 years ago HAHA either way, look out for SLG content soon, even if it's just memes :)

Howdy, all! I can't post my art summary quite yet because it contains part of someone's Secret Santa gift, so I thought I would fill out the fic summary template created by @reliablejoukido (see her original post here!). Even though I didn't publish (or finish!) much, I did start writing again this year, and that feels like a huge accomplishment, so it seemed like it would be fun to look back and talk a little bit about what I have in the works.

First, the finished fic!

My er... grand return to writing (I wouldn't call it that, but I did have a lot of fun writing and drawing for it, even if it took 6+ months from start to finish ^^;). I love these three characters as a trio so much. It was really hard to pull out a quote I liked and have it make sense in context, so I put the summary in there... but since I brought it up in another post, I thought I'd share what one of my editing drafts looks like:

Now, onto WIPs!

Hmm, well! That sure is a title, isn't it? ;) I wanted to write Junzumi and came up with this idea late last year, and finally started trying to figure it out. It's meant to be fun and flirty and a bit awkward, but the ultimate goal is to be kind to JP, because he (and his body) are given so little love overall. And even though JP and Zoe are not actually hooking up in this fic, it is meant to show the relationship between the two of them in college, and how they could start going from friendship to dating. There IS nudity, but it's meant to be tasteful and respectful, I promise!

Oof. I haven't forgotten this fic, I swear (even though I published Chapter 4 three years ago!). I got really excited to work on it earlier this year (flush with success from actually publishing something, rotfl!) and then let it continue to languish (orz). Upon reflection, the reason it's been stalled is I was having a hard time figuring out the flow of action, but after re-outlining it in September I think I know now what Maki needs to be doing in order to experience the emotions I always meant her to be feeling in this chapter. And yes, she and Meiko meet (yay!).

Chapter 6 has been done for YEARS, and Chapter 7's probably pretty close to done as well, so it really is just this chapter being the hold-up.

AKA, Garg Fic #1. Been mulling over ideas for fic for this fandom all summer, and finally decided to write one based on some minor characters from the SLG comics (that I didn't even read, and can't read now because they're out of print). But I AM reading the new Dark Ages comics, and I'm proving to be a really good guesser about certain details, so actually, I feel INCREDIBLY validated about my original vision and characterization, ahaha.

As you may be able to tell from the quote selection, this is not a happy story. But I believe it's a story worth telling. It's about preserving customs in the face of tragedy, and mourning, and extinction, and love.

AKA, the thing that pulled me away from writing Garg Fic #1. I was possessed. I was writing something in my head about Macbeth's relationship with Demona this summer, and suddenly (VERY suddenly) it morphed into this. Dang, but they're fun to think about. This fic is weird, it will contain one MAJOR narrative trope/cliche, and it's definitely going to be NSFW if I end up getting that far. But I reeeeeeally like this paragraph I wrote for it XD

I have this strong belief that he's incredible with math and statistics due to his interest in sports.

There's so much math that goes into figuring out the stats of baseball players; things like pitches (angles and miles per hour), batting averages, on-base percentages, and slugging percentages. All, by the way if you look at the MLB Player Hitting Stat Leaders (a great cheat sheet if you're ever confused on all the numbers you may see on the screen when watching the games), require certain formulas to configure the rates/percentages.

For example, the slugging percentage (SLG) formula is:

(1B+2Bx2+3Bx3+HRx4)/AB

Which basically translates to:

(Hits+Doubles(multiplied by 2)+Triples(multiplied by 3)+Home Runs(multiplied by 4)) and then divided by At-Bats.

So, if during the baseball season a player has 175 hits (or where they hit the ball on a fair-play and make it as far as first base), 30 doubles (where the player hits the ball and can successfully make it to second base), 3 triples (where the player hits the ball and makes it to third base), 50 home runs (the player hits the ball out of the playing field either to the seats or even outside of the park), and is on home base to bat around 500 times—then the formula would be:

(175+30(2)+3(3)+50(4))/500

If following PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) correctly:

(175+60+9+200)/500

(444)/500

The slugging percentage for anonymous player would then be:

.888 (and stops at the hundredths place, or the number value three spaces to the right of the decimal point)

The number should usually be less than the whole number one, meaning that the slugging percentage should be a decimal value less than one. If you somehow got a value bigger than 0.—, then the calculation is wrong.

As, for example, Aaron Judge's (of the New York Yankees who lead the player hitting stats this year) slugging percentage (or SLG) is 0.708.

Anyway, enough of me getting all math brained. (I like math too much). (And also baseball lmao).

In order to figure out some of these rates and percentages, you'd have to have a rudimentary understanding of algebraic equations. And, also, you'd have to be precise and accurate when calculating. Now, Steve may not be the one at his varsity games (or whatever level he was when playing baseball) doing the calculations on the coach's clipboard, he'd probably still be curious or interested in some of his favorite players' stats.

But, who knows, maybe he did run the books every once in a while when playing. Maybe he volunteered some of his time to be assistant coach for softball teams or even the elementary school minor leagues. Anyway. I truly, honestly believe he'd be competent in math, at least to an Algebra 1 or 2 level. And, y'know, he'd probably deny being totally into math, but I think he's one of the top tier students in those classes. After all, in order to stay on all these sports teams (to my understanding he was on one of the basketball teams, a junior varsity or varsity level baseball team, and co-captain of the swim team) you have to have at least a C grade or higher—otherwise, you're booted from the team. I think he liked sports enough that he actually tried in school; especially considering several history references and sports analyses he makes in the show.

Sorry to ramble, but I fully agree OP.

Give me good at math Steve. Maybe he’s dyslexic and words never made sense and always swam away from him, but numbers? He can memorize formulas, he can recognize pattterns.

I feel like it would add so much dimension to his character. I always like it in fic when they write Steve knowing a second language, or playing an instrument because I feel like the fandom has taken this idea that Steve is incompetent and ran with it. He’s incredibly clever, and sarcastic (a sign of intelligence btw), and snarky. He thinks quickly, is it well thought out? Not always, but that’s just his lack of self preservation skills. People can be smart and idiots at the same time, they can have their strengths and I wish that was portrayed more in fic and fandom.

So let him be good at math. Let him just be able to make sense of it. Show him tutoring El and assisting Lucas and Max when Mike and Dustin seem too condescending or intimidating or bitchy.

He’ll be bitchy too, but in an understanding way, because he knows what it’s like to struggle with something others find simple.

Also give us a scene where Mike or Dustin find out and flip their lids PLEASE

Ooooof, sorry for the long ramble, but I've been thinking about this post for a while, and it took me a while to respond! I've been champing at the bit to do another Macbeth-only rewatch (hopefully soon... those screenshots aren't going to take themselves!!).

I'm honestly still trying to sort out my feelings on "Pendragon," because it's just never been that strong of an episode in my opinion. Backdoor pilot plot, pretty "meh" animation, the Manhattan clan is just kind of "there," things that should be interesting and exciting (the Lady of the Lake lives in Central Park, Macbeth does a fair bit of magic, and a dragon, apparently??) feel very rushed, the action is not well-choreographed, and overall there's just not enough "good" to make up for the episode's flaws (sidebar, but I actually think this episode does become a bit more interesting from a lore perspective now that the Dark Ages comics exist. I'm not sure if you've read them so I won't spoil anything, but the final issues did made me go "huh!" in a way that is relevant to this episode).

Second sidebar, I am sorry for being critical of this episode if it actually is someone's favorite! It's just always been a bit of a slog for me, and I think that's mostly down to some plot and pacing issues. I do like Griff pretty well, though!

But, going back to the criticism: Macbeth. It's TRULY unfortunate that this is his last significant appearance in the series proper. He leans pretty heavily into (as Xanatos once put it) 'cliched villainy,' with his "mwahaha I will have this power for myself" thing (I mean. He doesn’t actually “mwahaha,” but hopefully you know what I mean). I DO think it's likely he's in the habit of collecting certain artifacts and magical items, for 'this might be useful down the road' and 'if I have it no one else does' sorts of reasons (I actually have a hypothesis about why he was interested the Scrolls of Merlin specifically, in "Lighthouse," when he thought the scrolls were actually magic spells). But yeah, why was he so fixated on this harmonic convergence thing, particularly after the events of "Sanctuary?" Buddy, what are you even DOING with your life right now?? I do think you're right, in that even HE doesn't know, and he's looking for a purpose/still recovering from having his heart broken and being massively betrayed by Demona, YET AGAIN.

I do kind of love that, once it becomes all about the sword, he ends up being all "yeah, why ISN'T this referring to me?" in regards to the 'timeless king' stuff. Because him being the (former) King of Scotland DOES very much seem like a point of pride for him, and why he turns down Arthur's offer at the end. This man has not been an active king since 1057 AD and yet he still (in some part) thinks of himself as one? I find that fascinating and I do actually love that for him (also YES, "Macbeth, Son of Findlaech!" He IS proud of where he comes from!!). I also imagine that pride complicates his idea of serving a (former/once/future?) King of England in such a direct capacity... even Arthur, who he respected as a legend. From Macbeth’s perspective, it’s easier to idolize a legend in the abstract than it is to accept that Arthur is alive and awake and doing his own thing in modern times, in the same world that Macbeth inhabits.

I also love in "Avalon" Part 2, where he and Arthur square off. Up to interpretation, I suppose, but based on how Macbeth and Demona talk to each other in "High Noon," I don't think it was part of the Weird Sisters' spell that made him say the things he was saying to Arthur. There's a part of Macbeth that wanted to fight him and see how they compared! And he doesn't even remember that he already had that chance! Sad (and maybe even sadder that he was bested—twice! ;_;) But he doesn't lose respect for Arthur, even though, at the end of “Pendragon,” his pride is a bit wounded. But apparently Macbeth and Arthur do meet again in the SLG comics from the early 2000s! They're f... they're friends, maybe, a little bit? I want to read that issue SO BAD just to see if there’s any more context to their conversation. But they do seem to share a little "immortal king support group" moment, at the very least!

So yeah, believe it or not, I am trying to think about this episode in a more positive light (or at least, with a different lens/more granularity than I had in 1997), and talking through it helps! I hadn’t thought about the Demona/Macbeth parallel in regards to wanting things but maybe not fully thinking them through, but that does seem to be on display for Macbeth here! And "destiny exists, but it means nothing for him." …Oh. Oh NO!!!!!!!! But... yeah............ T^T

I’m endlessly watching all the Macbeth centric episodes because I cannot stop

The city of Stone arc is a favorite of so many, and after you know his backstory it just makes everything about Macbeth fascinating to me.

In Pendragon, we see Macbeth challenge King Arthur, a figure that he presumably respects given his admiring speech about Camelot in Lighthouse, and it feels so far from what medieval Macbeth world do. I think that’s why most people took issue with this episode after seeing the person he was in City of Stone, not to mention after Sanctuary after Goliath helped him out of that bind with Thailog and Demona. Past Macbeth probably would have leapt at the chance to help Arthur reclaim Excalibur (although after he became King perhaps his support would have been measured), not covet the sword for himself.

What did he even want the sword for, anyway? I doubt it was to be the one true king (though I love that moment where he declares himself as such shouting “Macbeth, son of Findlaech” — he still takes pride in being his father’s son 😭). He clearly saw a moment of hope when he realized he was a “timeless king”, a chance that maybe after 900 years his existence would finally have a purpose, finally mean something. Like Demona, he is so lost to himself in some ways he doesn’t stop to think about why he wants it or what he’ll do with it once the power he’s after is his, he just throws himself at it headfirst. (It reminded me a lot of the moment in Mirror after Demona successfully summons and chains Puck—she spent so much time planning to steal the mirror and summon him and she still hadn’t bothered to think of what she’d wish for! She had to stop and think about it! Girl.)

Poor Macbeth doesn’t know what he wants after City of Stone or Sanctuary — he doesn’t want to live but doesn’t necessarily want to die anymore, he found love but it was a trap, destiny exists but it means nothing for him.
